Cape Town - A tree house is available for rent for R5000 in Gordon's Bay which was crafted and designed by a talented local artist, entrepreneur and sculptor and boasts office space and even toilet facilities with a view of the ocean.

Jaco Kruger, CEO at Ybike, Chrome Cherry Design Studio, Nimuno and JK Art advertised his one-bedroom apartment nestled between two large trees in Gordon's Bay last month on social media such as Facebook, which had many tongues wagging because of its unique and tranquil setting and architecture.

Kruger is still hunting for a prospective tenant. He spoke with Weekend Argus on how he made his so-called dream seaside cottage in nature possible.

Kruger is a sculptor and crafts, designs out of solids such as bronze etc.

Anything from second hand building material to new fresh cuts of wood is what made this beauty take shape.

It stands tall between two large oak trees on Kruger’s property and has running water, electricity and wifi.

It also boasts a balcony, window with a view of the ocean and a classic staircase leading to the top of the structure.

It has a simple but cleverly crafted toilet facility which has a tree branch sticking right out between the boards, giving it a rustic and earthy feel with a wash basin, toilet, shower space and shelf.

It’s nifty kitchen sports a tiny fridge, microwave oven, air fryer, packing space and it leads to the bedroom which has a loft effect, with the bed giving the illusion that it is airlifted from the ground with an open-plan leading to a cupboard for clothes and personal items.

The balcony showcases a braai area and cosy sitting area where sunsets and sunrises can be observed and interludes into the office space which has a desk and chair and shelf.

Kruger is very specific about whom he wants to share the space with as he works from home and needs his privacy and quiet time to do his craft.

He is seeking a peaceful, nature loving individual to rent the space for R5000 a month with a R5000 deposit.

He also asks that the person doesn't smoke or have pets on the property and must have a social media presence such as Facebook or Instagram and is a male between the ages of 30 to 50-years-old.

“I am an artist who works from home, so the environment is calm and peaceful,” he said.

“We will be living in close proximity, so it’s important that we get along.

“I am looking for someone responsible, relaxed, and respectful, definitely not a party-goer.

“An interview will be required, and I expect a full deposit before move-in.”

Kruger said he was inspired by a wooden chalet he had seen and began crafting the house three years ago which took him a few months.

“I visited a place where there were wooden chalets in a nature reserve in

Kleinmond, and I knew I wanted to design something like that,” he told the Weekend Argus.

“I had space on my property and an olive tree. It is nestled between the trees, some of the tree branches go through the house. It is a mixture of new and used construction material.

The wood used to build the house and other features are all new.

“I found things at second places such as old door frames etc and I refurbished them. I have spent a lot of time up there, and it is peaceful and quiet.

“A friend of mine stayed there for eight months.”
