Greenway Woods Resort is the perfect destination from which to explore Mpumalanga’s scenic beauty and abundance of wildlife.

The resort is near the artists’ mecca White River in the Lowveld, which is 27km from Nelspruit, 18km from the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, and 50km from Kruger National Park’s Numbi Gate.

Greenway Woods Resort is near a lake and flanks the White River Golf Estate, which boasts an 18-hole, par 71 course designed by Gary Player and Reg Taylor. Guests at Greenway can play (at membership fees) at three golf courses: White River, Nelspruit and Sabie River Bungalow.

Greenway offers first-rate service and superb accommodation in luxury three-bedroom chalets, deluxe rooms with fireplaces, and standard and garden rooms.

All of these have en-suite bathrooms, airconditioning, telephones and television sets with a DStv bouquet. The chalets and deluxe rooms also have lounge areas.

Apart from a wide choice of lodgings, Greenway Woods Resort also has a variety of restaurants. The Injabula restaurant is an African-styled restaurant with traditional artwork, where you can dine out on elegant takes of traditional dishes.

African music completes the vibe.

The River Grove Restaurant serves delicious breakfasts and light lunches, while light bites are on offer on the terrace of the Fairways Bar.

This golfers’ paradise, with golfing equipment harking back to earlier times on display, is complemented by warm brown and beige tones.

It’s a classic look and feel that makes it a pleasant spot to unwind, whether you’ve played a round of golf or not.

Chatting to general manager Dolores Erikson, I discovered that a bee problem has been turned into a productive and bee-friendly endeavour.

The novel idea of placing beehives on the chalet chimneys has not only solved the problem of “uninvited guests”, but also means Greenway Woods produces its own honey – “a positive contribution to our kitchens and the environment,” says Erikson.

That’s not all she is proud of. “Three of our International Hotel School trainees based at the resort were awarded the highest accolades achievable in the industry.”

Small wonder then that their grub is up to scratch.Greenway offers innovative team-building projects and has a conference venue for up to 200 delegates.

Conferences are conducted in a relaxed, friendly and fun atmosphere and concluded with hand, neck and foot massages.

Entertainment varies from murder dinners and fire dance shows to idols’s themed evenings and comedy shows.

In the school holidays, comprehensive children’s programmes are available, while grown-ups, and children of course, can enjoy activities such as table tennis, darts and board games, volleyball, mountain biking or simply lounge by the pool.

Nearby you’ll find plenty of other things to do – river rafting, hot air ballooning, horse riding, tennis, squash and game drives within the Kruger National Park are just some of the activities you can enjoy.

The hotel is an ideal base from which to explore other Lowveld attractions such as the spectacular Blyde River Canyon and Sudwala Caves. - Sunday Tribune
