DURBAN security boss, Ferrel Govender, has lost his bail appeal.

Judgment was handed down in the Durban High Court, a short while ago.

Govender, 40, the Group CEO of Pro Secure, has been charged with the murder of Mount Edgecombe businessman Shailen Singh. His brother, Darren Govender, 35, is his co-accused.

The 32-year-old owner of Shails Trans, a logistics company, was shot dead while seated in his vehicle in a restaurant's parking lot in Meridian Drive, Umhlanga on December 29.

The brothers handed themselves over to police on January 1.

During the bail application heard in the Durban Magistrate’s Court, it was heard that the alleged motive was due to a “love relationship”.

Singh was being accused of having an affair with Ferrel’s girlfriend.

At the time, Darren, a construction company owner, was granted R200 000 bail.

While Ferrel, a father of three, was denied bail.

Ferrel, who was represented by Michael Hellens SC instructed by attorney Ravindra Maniklall, took the bail decision on appeal to the high court.

Last Tuesday, following the arguments by both the State and his legal representative, judgment was reserved.
