Comedian Cyril Basker found himself on the tail end of an incident on Wednesday - laughing at a man galloping on his pet horse through a residential area in Newlands East.

"Haai guys, what's going on here in Newlands? Haai guys!... We got jockeys here from Hollywoodbets. Put your bet down. Put your bet down. Where's he coming first, second, third? Come on guys. Hey Durban July is around the corner... Hey Newlands," he laughs.

Speaking about the incident, Basker said: "I asked the man to press the hooter, pretending it was a car, so he said beep, beep and rode away. I think he was taking the horse on a walk. Some people are known to own horses as pets.

"As much as you'll never know what to expect from Newlands East, it has given us so much talent that we never expected from the likes of TRO (singing group) and comedians Carvin Goldstone, Richelieu Beaunoir and Miss Annie Botha."

Asked about the chances of him asking the man to ride the horse, he said: "The chances are very high. I was suppose to be a jockey. I went to be tested and failed because my legs were long but I am short. My heart was sore but now I'm a comedian and MC telling jokes to bring smiles and comfort to people."

Basker's next show is on May 1 at 7pm at the Riverside Grill in Durban.
