Police in Sekhukhune, Limpopo, have successfully arrested four suspects in connection with the possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.
This follows an intelligence-driven operation conducted on Sunday afternoon, March 23. Information was received by Ohrigstad SAPS members regarding a sedan motor vehicle allegedly stolen in the Giyani policing area earlier this month.
Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, said officers acted swiftly in activating the intelligence operation, resulting in the successful interception of the vehicle with four male occupants.
He added that the four male suspects, aged between 28 and 44, were taken into custody and charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
“The suspects were immediately taken into custody and charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. The vehicle has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.”
In another incident, police have condemned a mob-justice attack in Vuwani, Limpopo, where a man was found on the ground with extensive burns on his body after allegedly attempting to rape an elderly woman who screamed for help.
Mashaba stated that the police were alerted to an ongoing incident at Lwamondo, Tshalovha village, and quickly responded to the area. Upon arrival, they found a male victim lying on the ground, severely burned and unclothed, with no one else present at the scene.
He further stated that investigations revealed that when the man attempted to assault the elderly woman, members of the community gathered and found him naked. The deceased, believed to be in his mid-thirties, was then burned to death in the street.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was believed to be in his mid-thirties and was dragged outside the house and burned to death on the street after being allegedly found in a one roomed house when he attempted to rape an elderly woman who screamed for assistance. The members of the community assembled and found the deceased naked,” said Mashaba.
The deceased was positively identified at the scene by his next of kin as Singo Tshifhiwa.
A manhunt for the unknown suspects is currently underway. Anyone with information that could assist in their arrest is urged to contact the Investigating Officer, Sergeant Randzu Mabedle, at 079 849 6309, Crime Stop at 086 001 0111, the nearest police station, or via the MySAPSApp.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned both incidents and urged communities to resist the temptation of taking law into their own hands and report all criminal activities to the police.
