Orlando Pirates will have to put their shock defeat to Magesi FC behind them quickly, ahead of their Betway Premiership match against SuperSport United on Tuesday.
Pirates fell to a surprise 3-2 loss to Magesi in their Carling Knockout clash at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
In fact, Pirates were facing an embarrassing scoreline at 3-0 down at half-time. They only managed to save some pride with Kabelo Dlamini and Evidence Makgopa scoring the goals for Pirates after the 85th minute.
Pirates coach Jose Riveiro said their would be no time to dwell on their defeat.
‘By any means necessary’
“We must accept it quickly because we are playing [on Tuesday]. SuperSport is coming (to Orlando Stadium), and we have to get those three points by any means necessary,” said Riveio.
Riveiro said while his side would have obviously preferred to advance in the cup competition, the league would still be the primary focus.
“If we ranked the competitions, the league is the most important one. But then, when we go to these cups, we always go with the intention to offer good performances, but today was not that bad, but in four moments we were not at that level.
“The loss is obviously a difficult scenario for all of us – to go to break 3-0 down and understanding that you have to play another 45 minutes is a difficult situation,” he said.
“We did it in a professional way (in the end). But obviously, the feeling of being eliminated here at home is not nice. That goes without saying.”
