MTN8 kicks off next week with Orlando Pirates taking on SuperSport United

Orlando Pirates will begin the defence of their MTN8 title when they host SuperSport United on Saturday, August 3.

The Premier Soccer League announced on Thursday that the next edition of the MTN8 will begin next week, with the two powerhouses facing off against each other.

For just the third time in the PSL-era, the competition will not feature Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs, who miss out after a disappointing 10th place finish last season.

The threepeat is on for Ezimnyama ngenkani ezikaMagebhula, who have won the competition twice in the last two seasons under head coach Jose Riveiro.

On the next day, TS Galaxy will head down to the Cape Winelands to face Stellenbosch FC at the Danie Craven Stadium.

Steve Barker will have his signts on mounting a serious challenge, and will want his Stellenbosch side to make a huge statement against Galaxy, who will have a new coach after Sead Ramovic’s departure.

A week later, on August 10, Sekhukhune United will welcome Cape Town City to the Peter Mokaba Stadium, while league champions Mamelodi Sundowns will host Polokwane City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Meanwhile. the PSL are yet to confirm the dates and fixtures for the new season. That was thought to be held up by the league’s sponsorship issue, which was resolved on Wednesday with the announcement that Betway had come on board as the title sponsors for the top flight.

MTN8 Fixtures:

August 3: Orlando Pirates v SuperSport United at 6pm, Orlando Stadium.

August 4: Stellenbosch FC v TS Galaxy at 3pm, Danie Craven Stadium.

August 10: Sekhukhune United v Cape Town City at 3pm, Peter Mokaba Stadium.

August 11: Mamelodi Sundowns v Polokwane City at 3pm, Lucas Moripe Stadium.
