Ahead of their crucial Betway Premiership clash against TS Galaxy on Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs were dealt a blow as Rushwin Dortley is still out injured.
It wasn’t immediately clear when he could be expected, after first picking up the injury at the beginning of March.
The 22-year-old is a key figure in Chiefs’ defence and coach Nasreddine Nabi would have dearly wanted the player to return soon.
However, it’s emerged that Dortley had to go under the knife.
Injury woes continue for Chiefs as they prepare for tough test against Galaxy
"Defender, Rushwin Dortley remains on the injury list as he recovers from surgery, and the fitness of the rest of the squad will be assessed during the week’s preparation for the clash," said the club in a statement.
Chiefs are currently eighth on the log, and take on a Galaxy side that could be considered favourites at Peter Mokaba Stadium, in Polokwane, over the weekend. Galaxy are flying high at fourth and will be a stern test for the Soweto Giants.
The injury list is mounting for the struggling Chiefs, as Thabo Cele was sidelined over the weekend.
It seems Cele could face some time on the sidelines though Nabi actively avoided giving specific details about his player’s injury.
“I prefer to comment on the general performance of the team and not individual players,” Nabi said in his post-match press conference.
“I think we have been unlucky with the injuries we have had. Right now our right-back [Reeve Frosler] and our left centre-back [Rushwin Dortley], Thabo Cele and Tashreeq Morris, who are our latest additions, are out injured.
"We feel that it’s a lot to take, but we have to keep our energy positive.”
