Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana assistant coach Serame Letsoaka will take charge of the South African men’s under-20 side in a practice match against Malawi on Saturday.
The encounter at the Nike Football Training Centre in Pimville, Soweto will have 18 players in the squad.
Letsoaka will lead the squad in place of regular coach Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba, who is in Namibia.
Letsoaka has had to call up an almost completely different team to the squad that recently won the Cosafa Tournament in Lesotho with Mashaba.
“This is an important period for all our national teams as we have a very busy schedule,” said Safa president Danny Jordaan.
“This past weekend we had Banyana Banyana playing against Zimbabwe and they will soon be going into camp to face Scotland away.
“We currently have the under-17 men’s team in Namibia playing in a Four Nations Tournament. “
Next weekend, the Safa under-19 Youth Championship will be held in Bloemfontein.
“We might not see immediate results but this is a solid foundation for all of our national teams to participate competitively on the international stage,” said Jordaan.
