They may be one of the two most recognisable figures in sport, but Springbok skipper Siya Kolisi and tennis legend Roger Federer took some time out to explore the rural area of Bushbuck Ridge in Mpumalanga.

On Instagram, Kolisi posted a video of himself walking on a sand road and later he introduced none other than Federer himself.

Kolisi said he was playing tour guide to Federer, while he showed the Swiss great around the area where Springbok Trevor Nyakane was born.

Federer’s mother is South African, and he has always held a soft spot for the country and its sportspeople.

Kolisi has been more active on social media since moving back to South Africa from French club Racing 92 as he has returned to the Sharks.

The retired 43-year-old Federer won 20 tennis Grand Slam titles, behind only Spain’s Rafael Nadal (22) and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic (24).

Over the Christmas period, former Springbok Naas Botha said that the 33-year-old Kolisi was still playing some of his best rugby and he expected him to still be around for the Boks at the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

“To be honest, for the last two years, he's really, really been playing extremely well for South Africa. And that's all we ask as supporters,” said Botha.

“The thing is, there is a time to come and there is a time to go. It's definitely not his time to go yet. We can wait a little bit on that one.

“It depends on the physical side. You know, a player will just wake up one morning … and we all do. And you just say, ‘This is enough’ At the moment, the way he's been playing, I don't think he can say it's enough. I still believe there's still a little bit of fire in the belly.”
