Proteas T20I captain Aiden Markram is slowly getting into good form for the Lucknow Super Giants in the ongoing 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Markram had a slow start in the IPL competition as he was moved up the order to open the batting, despite operating in the middle order for South Africa in white-ball cricket.
The 30-year-old started his LSG career with three low scores before finding form in the fourth and fifth games, registering 53 and 47.
Markram's form came as a bonus for LSG as Australia batter Mitchell Marsh and West Indies power hitter Nicholas Pooran have been carrying the batting unit with some impressive knocks.
Markram reiterated his intention to continue playing an attacking brand in the powerplay.
"We've got some freaks in our team, Mitch (Marsh) and Nicky (Pooran), who are hitting it to all parts at the moment. It's great to watch them do their thing and get some big runs on the board," said Markram.
"(I was) a bit scratchy, to be honest. In the powerplay, I looked to take the game on and sometimes it works. I try to play with that positive intent and see where it gets you."
Markram and Marsh open the batting together for LSG and have been in fine form, with the pair putting on two 50-plus partnerships, including an opening stand of 99 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Proteas T20I skipper believes that their growing friendship off the field is starting to show on the field as well, as their partnerships have helped LSG register big wins against two big teams, the Mumbai Indians and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
"Out in the middle and off the park as well. He's a great man, and we're enjoying our company together off the park. So far, we are starting to get a bit of momentum," said Markram.
"Two really big wins against two quality teams. Chuffed with that."
Markram and his IPL teammates, including Proteas players David Miller and Matthew Breetzke, will be back on the park on Saturday when Lucknow host the Gujarat Titans in Visakhapatnam.
