Dewald Brevis is starting to deliver on his incredible promise as one of the next big talents in South African cricket.
Often seen as a future successor to Proteas legend AB de Villiers with his attacking play all around the wicket, now aged 21, Brevis has steadily risen up the batting rankings in the SA20.
In the first season of the SA20, the MI Cape Town (MICT) batsman battled to find his feet as he averaged just 26, and then struggled even more in season two with an average of 18. His strike-rate in the first season was 117, and 140 in the second.
Even in those first two editions of the T20 tournament, he still managed to produce some top knocks with high scores of 70 and 66 in each season. But it was the consistency which was missing.
That’s no longer the case though, as Brevis this season averages 50 at an incredible strike rate of 180.
Brevis is also now ranked ninth in the most runs scored this season with his tally of 253, with just the final remaining between MICT and the Sunrisers Eastern Cape at the Wanderers on Saturday.
“This year’s been fantastic. I’ve really enjoyed playing. I think the team is really doing well together and we are having a good time on and off the field,” Brevis told SportsBoom.co.za.
“When it comes to my personal batting and game, it was really hard work. I did a lot of hard work behind the scenes. I found a few things that work for me, a few pointers and I’ve worked on a few technical things. I play with a smile and I’m grateful that this season has been going well.”
