Pretoria - Tshwane has experienced a 12.5% increase in active Covid-19 cases in the past week.
Municipal spokesperson Selby Bokaba said the latest report indicated that the metro experienced a slight increase as of Saturday, from 1 308 to 1 471 active cases.
Bokaba said the city was also preparing to set up a pop-up vaccination site at Loftus Versfeld Stadium during the Nedbank Cup quarter-final match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Summerfield Dynamos tomorrow.
He said this was to encourage those who would be around the stadium precinct to vaccinate.
In terms of the latest update, the CBD, Brooklyn, Hatfield, and Pretoria West registered the highest number of active cases – from 364 to 432.
Sinoville, Montana, Temba-Hammanskraal areas and Onderstepoort-Soutpan Road recorded a 63% increase after cases in the region jumped from 80 to 130.
“Despite the increase in numbers, the situation in two of our regions is encouraging. The southern gateway and Bronkhorstspruit have seen slight decreases in the number of active cases, after registering less than -4% and -35%, respectively.
“According to the report, Rayton, Cullinan and Refilwe have seen an increase of eight cases, moving from 16 the previous week to 24 as of last Saturday,” said Bokaba.
He said the city would continue with its Covid-19 activities such as the weekly ward-based campaign, pop-up sites and workplace vaccination in order to increase the number of fully vaccinated individuals.
The weekly ward-based campaign will continue to target hot spots and offer people free screening and testing to assist the battle against the coronavirus.
The government has encouraged sanitising and mask-wearing indoors.
