Personal Finance and linked investment product company, TMA Investment Products Services, have again joined forces to hold a series of national seminars on retirement in March.

A major focus of the seminars will be any changes expected to retirement funds taxation made by Finance Minister Trevor Manuel when he delivers his budget in parliament on February 17.

The seminars will include a number of new topics year including the psychology of retirement.

Speakers, who are experts in numerous fields associated with retirement, have been lined up for the seminars.

The all-day seminars will kick off in the Western Cape on March 23 at the conference centre at Spier Estate outside Stellenbosch. Next comes Durban on March 25 at the Royal Hotel. The final leg will be held at Vodaworld Conference Centre at Midrand in Gauteng on March 30.

Benefits of attending the seminars include:

* Showing you how to build up and preserve your retirement funds;

* Estimating your needs for retirement;

* Providing you with guidelines for the best pre- and post-retirement investment strategies;

* Helping you prepare mentally for retirement; and

* Assisting you to plan for efficient taxation in the build up to your retirement and thereafter.

One of the country's top experts in financial planning and retirement tax, Jacqui Segal of M3 Capital, will deal with Manuel's retirement tax proposals as well as how they fit into the recommendations made by Michael Katz in his plan for a new retirement tax regime.

A number of speakers have been lined up to deal with the equally important issue of investing and protecting your money. These include Peter Linley, who heads the unit trust investment team at Old Mutual; Trevor Garvin at TMA Investment Management Services and Craig Erwin of Marriott Property Services.

Chris Bvsenberg, an independent retirement fund adviser, who for a number of years has been responsible for the industry benchmark on retirement fund developments conducted by life assurance giant Sanlam, will explain how a retirement fund should be properly administered.

This has become an extremely important factor with the control of retirement funds increasingly being put into the hands of members with elected trustees.

With expectations that many people are now likely to spend as much time in retirement as they did working the psychology of retirement has too become an important issue.

Dealing with this issue will be Dr Kobie Taljaard, director of human resources at the Cape Technikon and an acknowledged expert in this field.

Top financial adviser Nigel Scott will deal with the most often asked question of how to deal and choose a financial adviser.

Personal Finance columnist, radio talk show host, author and deputy chairman of Citadel Financial Services, Magnus Heystek, will detail changes taking place in the retirement industry and how you need to adapt your retirement plans to the changes.

Bruce Cameron, Editor of Personal Finance and co-author with Magnus Heystek of a book on retirement, will speak about how to estimate how much money you will need in retirement and how to plan to meet this target before you retire.

To reserve your seat at the seminars you must book early.
