The fight against Hamas remains Israel's commitment, and US President Donald Trump did not speak about sending troops to Gaza to assist in it, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday.
"I do not think he talked about sending US troops to complete the job of destroying Hamas. That's our commitment. That's our job, and we are absolutely committed to it," Netanyahu told Fox News.
Trump said during the meeting with Netanyahu that the US may send its troops to the Gaza Strip if it is necessary and promised to visit the enclave personally. The US leader also stated that the US would "take over" Gaza and be responsible for reconstruction work in the region.
However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday that Trump had neither pledged to deploy troops to Gaza nor agreed to finance its reconstruction.
