The City of Cape Town will begin the widening of Wetton Road (M9) in Wynberg by the end of March 2025 to enhance traffic flow and support the expansion of the MyCiTi bus service.

The construction area extends from Rosmead Avenue to the M5 bridge, with work aimed at creating dedicated left and right-turn lanes for MyCiTi buses accessing the upcoming Wynberg MyCiTi bus facility.

Expected completion date: End of October 2025

What Commuters Should Expect

  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 15:00 (off-peak hours)
  • Work may continue on Saturdays and public holidays if necessary
  • One lane in each direction will remain open where possible
  • Reduced speed limits through the construction zone
  • Road resurfacing and new road markings after widening
  • Improved access to the racecourse as part of the project
  • New sidewalks and upgraded stormwater infrastructure to improve drainage

The City of Cape Town claims it is investing in multiple road infrastructure projects in Claremont, Wynberg, Mitchells Plain, and Khayelitsha to support the second phase of the MyCiTi bus rollout.

"We understand that roadworks cause unavoidable disruptions, and we appreciate your patience as we work to provide a world-class public transport system for Cape Town," said Councillor Rob Quintas, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility.
