ANC member of parliament (MP) Gwede Mantashe has jokingly urged the EFF to fetch its former deputy president Floyd Shivambu from uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party as tensions continue to rise.

Speaking to the EFF on the sidelines of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) debate on Tuesday in Cape Town, Mantashe, the Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources said “Fetch Floyd [from MKP], it’s bad. Bring him back to EFF, it’s bad where he is.”

Shivambu joined MKP in 2024 after dumping the EFF.

He has however been in a public spat with Jacob Zuma’s daughter Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla.

This follows a series of attacks and insults from  Zuma-Sambudla levelled against Shivambu who is the MKP’s secretary-general.

Zuma-Sambudla said Shivambu was the worst thing that happened to the MKP and that he was useless.

She even told Shivambu “f%** you” in one of her X posts.

There is a prevailing perception that recent arrivals within the organisation are assuming greater control, while long-standing employees are being sidelined.

Shivambu is also accused of wanting to deploy his people (former EFF members) in some of the party positions.

Although the MKP internal battles have been for some time now, many including Zuma-Sambudla blame Shivambu for worsening the situation.

But Zuma-Sambudla has since apologised to Shivambu after her father instructed her to or face expulsion or termination of membership.

“While I hold strong and personal views, including serious concerns about internal party matters, my perceptions of how certain issues may be handled within the organisation, especially by the party's secretary-general, I fully recognise that such concerns should have been, and shall be addressed through the proper internal channels, as dictated by the core values and principles of the glorious movement of the people.

“I acknowledge that expressing these grievances publicly was unfortunate and may have undermined the unity, discipline, and respect that defines the MK Party,” she said in her statement.

Although she apologised, her fiery tweets against Shivambu remained on her timeline.

Many said she only apologised to her father and not Shivambu. They also want her to be suspended like any other member would have, saying brought the party into disrepute.
