uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party Member of Parliament, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, is set will be back in court for her alleged part in July 2021 riots that engulfed parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng after her father, former president Jacob Zuma was arrested for contempt of court.
The Durban High Court will hear her case on Thursday at 10am.
She was released with a formal warning on January 30, 2025, when she first appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court.
Following that, the matter was sent to the High Court for additional legal proceedings.
Zuma-Sambudla is facing two counts of inciting public violence and inciting violence against the state.
The extensive property destruction and looting that took place during the uprising are connected to these charges.
The State alleged that Zuma-Sambudla, the daughter of former President Jacob Zuma, played a key role in instigating the criminal activities that took place during that period.
According to the State, Zuma-Sambudla’s social media comments at the time fuelled the controversy surrounding the unrest.
Last week, the party leader, Zuma, also called on the supporters to attend every court hearing where their fellow members are expected to stand.
Another MK Party member, former MKP Youth Leader Bonginkosi Khanyile is also facing charges related to the looting and riots.
Khanyile is currently out on R5,000 bail.
He is facing charges of inciting public violence and violating the Disaster Management Act.
The violence and looting which primarily affected KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Gauteng resulted in over 300 deaths.
