Victims were left stranded when criminals not only stole their vehicles but also used their stolen bank cards to withdraw cash from ATMs. The police have since obtained crucial footage of the suspects and are urging the public to assist in bringing them to justice.

The Upington Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit is currently investigating two separate incidents that took place in November and December 2024 in the Postmasburg area, Northern Cape, where victims were reportedly attacked, their belongings stolen, and their bank cards used fraudulently.

“In both incidents, the victims were allegedly robbed of their belongings, including bank cards, which were later used to withdraw cash from local ATMs,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela.

After extensive investigations, authorities have obtained surveillance camera images of the suspects at ATMs. These images depict individuals withdrawing cash, which is believed to have been taken from the victims' accounts following the robberies.

Law enforcement officials are now urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of these criminals. However, they caution against direct engagement with the suspects.

“The public is, however, warned not to approach them but contact the police,” said Masegela, adding that all information will be treated confidentially.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with relevant information is encouraged to assist the police in ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
