Bronville police in the Free State have launched an investigation after an unknown African male in his twenties was found brutally assaulted with a sjambok, left unconscious in the street and later died in the hospital on Tuesday, March 12.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Palesa Thabana said that officers were called to a scene near a house in Philander Street, Bronville, where they found the man.
"Upon arrival, they found an unidentified African male estimated to be aged between 20 and 30, lying unconscious in the street. The victim had multiple sjambok marks on his face and body," said Thabana.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention but later succumbed to his injuries.
“The deceased person is dark in complexion. He was wearing a maroon T-shirt, a black suit, and a pair of grey and white sneakers found next to his body,” said Thabana.
Police confirmed that no arrests have been made yet.
"No suspects have been arrested at this stage. The investigation is still ongoing," said Thabana.
Authorities are now appealing to the public for any information that may help identify the victim or lead to the arrest of those responsible.
