A 40-year-old rapist faces a lengthy prison sentence for raping and sexually assaulting two boys, aged 11 and nine, in Kakamas in the Northern Cape.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the ZF Mgcawu District has hailed the hefty sentence handed to the child molester by the Kakamas Regional Court on Tuesday, December 3.

Police spokesperson Seargent Omphile Masegela said in March 2023, the police got a report from a worried mother after one of her sons told her about an incident in which the man sexually attacked him and his sibling.

"The incident happened four months prior when she was attending a funeral in another town and the boys were left in the care of a family member," Masegela said.

Following this, a case docket was created and assigned to Sergeant Jurie Mokgalagadi of Kakamas Family Violence, Child Protection, and the Sexual Offences Unit.

"The thorough investigation and sufficient evidence collection brought the desired prosecution. The accused was found guilty on two counts of sexual assault," Masegela added.

The member's diligent research and collaborative efforts with the prosecutor were praised for ensuring justice for the boys and many other possible victims.

Another gender-based perpetrator has been removed from the community.

In another shocking case, a teacher from KwaZulu-Natal was sentenced to a double life term in prison for raping two boys and paying them R2 for their silence.

Patrick Nkosi, 60, was sentenced by the Vryheid Regional Court.

KZN SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda said that in July of 2019, the children were sent to the shop when the rape took place.

"They were aged four and five at the time. Nkosi called them to his house where he raped them. He then gave them R2 and told them not to tell anyone about what had happened," Netshiunda said.
