The Volkswagen T-Cross is now more accessible, following the introduction of two new entry-level models to the range.
Announced at its “2025 Indaba” held at the Kariega factory this week, the new ‘base’ trim 1.0 TSI 70kW model comes in at R400,700, while the 85kW DSG auto version is priced at R418,200.
Although they’re not quite at the affordable end of the SUV scale, the pair significantly undercut the existing 1.0 TSI Life (R471,400), Style (R511,300) and R-Line (R543,800) facelifted derivatives that were launched in South Africa in late 2024.
VWSA has not released detailed specifications as yet, but the new base models do come with App-Connect, 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, multi-function steering wheel, manual air conditioning, hill assist, two USB ports upfront and a tyre pressure monitoring system. 16-inch covered steel wheels distinguish it externally.
As with all T-Cross models, a three-year or 45,000km service plan is included in the price.
Performance and economy
The 70kW 1.0-litre TSI turbopetrol version is available exclusively with a five-speed manual gearbox and the 85kW model has a seven-speed DSG auto transmission as standard.
For what it’s worth, the 70kW can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 11.5 seconds, the manufacturer says, with the 85kW model taking 10.2 seconds. VW claims combined fuel consumption figures of 5.9 and 5.6 litres per 100km for the two respective models.
The new base models complete the facelifted T-Cross line-up that was introduced in August 2024. The refresh introduced a new bumper and grille design upfront as well as expanded colour options such as Grape Yellow and Clear Blue Metallic.
Inside, the new dashboard features a free-standing 8.0-inch touchscreen and fresh materials feature throughout the cabin.
