Recently, Dr Yogan Pillay, country director for the South Africa Clinton Health Access Initiative, said although he was happy that more than 9 million South Africans had been vaccinated, the issue of access and equity was a concern.
Pillay, who is also a senior global director for Universal Health Coverage, said: “There are simply too many people in the private sector being vaccinated compared with those in the rural areas. The whole point of focusing on people over 60 first was that they were, and remain, the most vulnerable.”
The banners said provincial departments would be communicating commuting points for people aged 50 years and older to be transported to and from vaccination sites.
