Durban – Local designer Bianca Warren is a savvy young businesswoman with a thriving store in the heart of Umhlanga.
So it’s no wonder that when she splashes out on big-ticket items; she has planned and saved for them.
Warren says four years in the fashion design industry has taught her to appreciate high-quality craftsmanship.
“Instead of splurging, I tend to make more considered purchases these days,”’ she says. “A good handbag, sunglasses or time piece may require some saving, but it’s worth it in the end.
“I love quality, so my style, and even what I design, is well tailored, timeless and effortless, with clean cuts. Day to day, I live in jeans. For evening functions and events I push the boundaries. I am always making elegant little black numbers or loud, statement dresses. which I enjoy wearing.”
The designer, who specialises in commercial and bridal couture evening wear, says: “My style icon is Donna Karan. Her spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection was absolutely magnificent. For the moment my red-carpet celebrity style icon is Blake Lively, but this changes from time to time.”
Warren says she is definitely a “fashion junkie”.
“When I read, it’s only ever fashion magazines, entrepreneur-inspired books or business books. When I watch TV while beading a wedding dress it’s always a fashion channel for added inspiration.
“My business is my life. I definitely believe in the business of fashion philosophy. Whether you’re a designer or a consumer, it’s important to think a little beyond beautiful garments and design your finances while you fashion your image.”
