London - Couples who are more vocal in the bedroom have traditionally been regarded as exhibitionists.
But research now suggests they really do have better sex.
For British researchers have discovered there is a direct correlation between expressing enjoyment and enhanced pleasure.
Women, in particular, respond well to their partner audibly expressing enjoyment, the researchers at the University of Leeds found.
It’s thought they achieve higher sexual satisfaction because they are reassured that they are performing well and their efforts are being appreciated.
And men enjoy sex more if their lover is noisy, it is claimed.
The researchers got 71 women to report on the noises they make just before and during their partner’s orgasm. Almost two-thirds of women said they intentionally made more noise to help their partner finish.
The research, published in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour, found that “92 percent of participants felt very strongly that these vocalisations boosted their partners’ self-esteem – and 87 percent reported using them for this purpose”.
Women claim to be noisier in the bedroom than men, according to a recent poll of more than 1 000 people in the UK by the sex toy retailer Lovehoney.co.uk.
Almost all the women questioned (94 percent) admitted making more noise than their partner. Seven out of 10 men also said women were louder.
One explanation for why women are noisier is because their orgasms are more intense.
The bundle of nerves on a woman’s clitoris is much larger than it is near the man’s penis – giving women added pleasure when they orgasm.
Sex expert Tracey Cox argued that women may feel pressured to make more noise to show they are enjoying themselves.
She said: “One theory might be that since women fake it more often than men do, perhaps they feel obliged to provide ‘evidence’ that they’re enjoying themselves.”
Cox was sceptical that more noise equals better sex, despite the research.
She added: “I found it interesting women came up as ‘noisier’. There’s no scientific explanation of why one sex is noisier in bed.
“It tends to be an individual thing. Some people scream the house down at a concert, others watch without making a sound. It doesn’t mean they’re not enjoying it as much!” – Daily Mail
