London – Our love affair with smartphones, iPads and other gadgets is in full swing. So much so, it seems to be overshadowing our desire for real life romance.
Interviews with couples from across England revealed that 40 per cent had put off having sex to send text messages, make a phone call or surf the web.
Others said they had rushed romance in order to respond to messages, while a third admitted answering the phone during sex.
One woman described her husband’s smartphone as the ‘third person in our marriage’.
Another said: ‘I’ll be on Facebook and he’ll be on a sporting app while we are both in bed – we are sitting next to each other but living in different worlds.’
Durham University researcher Dr Mark McCormack, who interviewed 15 couples, said that taking phones and laptops into the bedroom has ‘potentially serious costs to relationships’.
His study, commissioned by Durex, also revealed that 40 per cent of couples had sent sexy pictures to each other.
