London - Beautiful flowering bulbs in stylish containers make perfect Christmas gifts.
So get planting now if you fancy saving a few cents by making your own.
Buy bulbs that will bloom at Christmas.
Use baskets, bowls, recycled tin cans or even vintage cups and saucers as containers.
Place a layer of moistened bulb fibre in the container and add the bulbs — they shouldn’t touch each other or the container’s sides.
Top up with fibre, leaving the bulb tips peeking out.
Place in a black bin bag in a dark, cool corner of a cellar or garage, and check regularly — add a little water if they start to dry out.
Once the shoots are 2in (5cm) long, bring them into a cool room in the house, away from bright light. Let the leaves green up, then place near a window in a warm room for the flowers to develop. Then just add a gift tag! - Daily Mail
