#SAFTAs12: Rouge wins Best Micro Budget Film Award

South African rapper Rouge won the Best Micro Budget Film award for the New Era Sessions Film at the SAFTAs in Sun City on Thursday.  

The film which accompanies Rouge’s debut album features entertainment heavyweights, Atandwa and Fikile Kani, the inimitable Denise Zimba and a debut appearance from Cassius Davids, depicts the story of a young woman on her journey of self-discovery.

The production is an immersion into her experiences as she deals with the highs and lows of falling in love, the delight of true friendship and the bitterness of betrayal. 

“I am humbled and honoured to have received this level of recognition from the South African Film and Television Industry. It is an incredible accomplishment for not only me but for the incredible team that supported me and worked alongside me to bring my vision to life. As a woman artist, I am proud to help pave the way for future female artists to find their voice.” said Rouge.

This film stands as testament to Rouge’s creativity and dedication to her art, positioning her as an all-round artist.

Rouge has risen in an industry that is prone to overlooking female rappers. She has created a body of work that encapsulates her talent and creative vision, setting the bar high for future film and musical projects.

The Awards celebrate, honour and promote the creativity and quality of South African Film and Television talents and productions as well as encourage development of new talent within the film and television industry. 

In the hope of making the film more accessible to her audience, Rouge has decided to release the film in four “chapters” on YouTube.
