In an exclusive interview with IOL Entertainment, award-winning rapper Blxckie candidly spoke about his recent single “South,” fatherhood and headlining his international tour in the US.
The Durban-born rapper, born Sihle Sithole, has recently released a new track in support of the Sprite Limelight campaign.
The hitmaker has had a busy year in the musical front and on the personal side, becoming a dad, while also being nominated for a 2024 BET Hip Hop Award.
Blxckie shared that the making of “South” with the production duo Daytrip was built around a sample, which they flipped and developed into the final version of “South” after trying three different versions.

After recording the song, he worked on getting his face on Sprite packaging and shot the music video for “South” in Durban.
His international tour, titled “see u soon,” shares its name with his EP, which he released under his new label, Def Jam.
The tour is inspired by this phase of his career, during which he intends to branch out of South Africa.
“‘See u soon’ is me telling the people here at home that I’ve got some work to do outside the country, so I’ll be back; I’ll see you soon,” he explained during the interview.
Regarding his 2024 BET Hip Hop Award nomination, Blxckie expressed his excitement.
He noted that these are also exciting times for local hip hop in general, with all the chart-topping releases. He added that it shows that people internationally are paying attention.
As a new dad, Sithole also opened up about his journey into fatherhood.
He shared that this experience involves many firsts, as he’s never been a parent before, but he feels he’s learning a lot, and the baby is doing well and is healthy.
When asked how he feels about going on tour and leaving his daughter behind after already building a bond with her, he admitted:
“It hurts a little bit. Since she’s been born, I haven’t really been out of the country or away for that long,” he said.
He may be a new dad but he sure knows how to work his way around changing a diaper, thanks to the internet, he shared.
His tour kicks off on his birthday, November 24, and he’s excited to see that all the hard work he’s put in has culminated in a strong brand and a solid name in the industry.
He’s thrilled to be headlining and hopes people come out to experience his music and see how they feel about the different genres he explores.
