Soulful emerging artist, Mizamo Ntlangani, was born and raised in a quaint settlement of Tsolo, nestled in the Eastern Cape, and she is on a mission to make a name for herself in the city of gold.
From an early age, she found solace in music, nurturing an unwavering aspiration to become a singer.
Her journey commenced as a tiny girl, taking centre stage as a lead singer in school choirs, a platform that bolstered her confidence and fortified her belief in her dreams.
The 23-year-old is now creating her lane as an afro yano vocalist - a harmonious fusion of afro pop infused with delicate piano melodies.
The young artist draws inspiration from artists such as afro-pop star Simmy.
“I have always been a huge fan of Afro-pop because it is a genre that has catchy and memorable melodies often inspired by African music and amapiano provides a solid foundation and adds depth to the sound,” says the singer.
This year Mizamo released two amazing singles titled “Bawo Sixolele” and “Vur Vai”.
“Bawo Sixolele” is derived from one of Mizamo’s favourite church hymns and is more than just a song; it’s a journey of forgiveness crafted with passion and precision.
“When I was writing the song I had mixed emotions both grateful and recalling a certain time in my life whereby I had doubts whether God was present in my life or not because of what I was going through.”
The second single “Vur Vai” was released with a music video. This single is upbeat and talks about independent women.
“Going to kwaMai-Mai in Johannesburg and experiencing the culture helped me a lot with the writing of this song as I got to witness the power and impact of independent women who are hustling hard in their businesses.”
Shot and directed by Sipho Magosa Media, the concept of the music video was to showcase an independent woman who is not fazed by fancy things from men.
“There are a lot of strong women who work hard and inspire me, for example, Bonang Matheba and DJ Zinhle.
“For the music video, we first had to look for a place suitable for the concept we came up with which was about a strong independent girl.”
Mizamo’s big move to Johannesburg to pursue her musical career further came with its fair share of challenges.
“I met the wrong people who wanted to take advantage of me and that made me want to give up.
Johannesburg has also been filled with lessons that have helped Mizamo improve her craft throughout her journey.
“There’s a lot of different cultures in Johannesburg and that has positively influenced my music because I have realised how diverse and beautiful our cultures are.”
Mizamo is signed by Jibbani Records and will be releasing her debut album under this label later this year. “The album has different lyrical content about Love, God and heartbreaks.
“I have featured some amazing artists like the Sama award-winning Lungisa Xhamela, Miz and Mr Luu. These collaborations have helped me grow in terms of writing and being creative.”
Mizamo hopes to release more albums, perform all over the world and become a global star. “I want to collaborate with Msaki, Nkosazana Daughter and Beyonce. There is a lot I still need to achieve.”
