Clint Viljoen, born in Ravensmead, Cape Town, recalls his experience growing up in the area as he gets ready to discuss his latest single.

"It was pretty much as exciting as it was for any child growing up in a busy neighbourhood like Ravensmead, without the crime rate that currently floods it," he shares.

"Waiting" is the name of his latest offering to the world. It was released on Valentine's Day. Viljoen reflects on why the song is personal to him.

“This song resonates deeply with me because it reflects my own love story.”

Although the personal aspect is attached, Viljoen yearns for listeners to remember that love is beautiful, hoping that bits and pieces from "Waiting" can be applied to people's lives.

"The lyrics come from a personal place, and I hope listeners can take bits and pieces from Waiting and apply them to their own lives. Love is a beautiful thing, and this song is a reminder of that,” he adds.

With the release of "Waiting", fans were offered a glimpse into his upcoming EP, which is set to be released later this year. The project will feature three collaborations and five carefully put-together songs for his fans to enjoy.

Talk to me about growing up in Ravensmead. What was that experience like?

It was pretty much as exciting as it was for any child growing up in a busy neighbourhood like Ravensmead, without the crime rate that currently floods the area.

Do you remember your first time in a studio? How was that experience and, looking back, how much have you grown since then?

Yes, I do remember my first time at my friend’s home studio, and the experience was so overwhelming, hearing the recording playback with my voice on it.

I have grown immensely in the industry, knowing and experiencing the difference between a home studio and a professional studio.

Over the years, how has your meaning of success changed?

As I have travelled the world through my music career, I’ve learned that hard work beats talent any day, along with consistency.

Thinking about your musical influences, who was that one person who inspired you to take up music?

My late uncle Ferdie inspired me to become a musician, as I was often used by him to get attention from the ladies for his gain (jokingly).

When going through challenges, what inspired you to continue with music despite it being difficult?

Music is food for my soul, and it doesn’t add to my pain or challenges - it simply opens doors.

Would you say that your environment growing up inspired creativity?

Yes, as every other musician to date can relate to, I was raised in a Christian household where we would attend church, and it stemmed from there onwards.

Talk to me about the moments leading up to "Waiting." Why was it the right time to release it on Valentine’s Day?

The message simply speaks for itself, as it was appropriate for Valentine’s Day.

Now that the song is out, has the reception been what you expected?

Yes, indeed, as it’s gaining a lot of attention for my unique sound.

What do you want your audience to take away from this song?

Everybody needs somebody, and time waits for no one.

Looking toward the rest of the year, what can fans expect from you moving forward?

I’ll be dropping my EP later this year, and they can look forward to some live performances and a national tour.
