What is the ‘Princess Diaries’ franchise? The movies follow San Francisco resident Mia Thermopolis, portrayed by Hathaway, as she learns she is the princess of the small kingdom of Genovia.
Andrews plays her regal grandmother, who has to teach the American teenager to fit into their royal family.
In the second film, Mia gets accustomed to life as a royal and is expected to get married to be able to become queen.
Lim said as a diehard fan of the original film, she is beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life. She said she looks forward to celebrating its core tenets of female power, joy, and mentorship with audiences worldwide.
Besides her upcoming role in “The Princess Diaries” 3, Hathaway has been active in Hollywood. She starred in “The Idea of You” (2024), where she plays an older woman involved with a younger pop star.
