“Happenstance”
Durban's esteemed Flatfoot Dance Company is set to enchant audiences with a pair of exclusive performances titled “Happenstance”, specially crafted for the KZNSA Gallery in Glenwood.
The evocative production will take place on Friday, February 28, and Saturday, March 1, offering the audience a chance to explore the beauty and complexity of contemporary relationships through dance.
Lliane Loots, Flatfoot Dance Company’s artistic director describes “Happenstance” as a vivid exploration of the interconnected moments that shape our lives.
“Happenstance is a synonym for coincidence, accident, a chance event or encounter … but usually producing positive results.
“In this, we invite the audience to journey with the dancers as they confront, meet and encounter one another in a display of beautiful soulful dance that resonates all that is possible when ‘happenstance’ becomes a powerful force for our individual and collective growth.”
The performance will gain additional cultural richness through the participation of Nairobi-based dancer, Maulid Owino from Kenya’s Dance Into Space (DIS).
“We have a long partnership with DIS and are delighted to be deepening our encounters by hosting Owino during February 2025.
“His fluid grace and skill as a dancer will afford Durban audiences a rare glimpse of the power of these fragile, yet beautiful, African connections,” shared Loots.
“Happenstance” is a collaborative creation featuring the talents of Loots, Owino and Flatfoot dancers Sifiso Khumalo, Jabu Siphika, Zinhle Nzama, Siseko Duba, Sbonga Ndlovu and Ndumiso “Digga” Dube.
