The family of veteran award-winning actress Connie Chiume confirmed her passing on Tuesday afternoon. They announced on the “Gomora” actress's official social media accounts that she had died at the age of 72.

“The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award winning actress Connie Chiume.”

Connie Chiume 72 passed on at Garden City Hospital today on the 6th August 2024. The Family asks for privacy during this difficult period. The family will communicate further details,” read the statement.

Chiume was well-known for her roles in Mzansi Magic’s “Gomora,” the acclaimed musical “Black Is King,” and the international blockbuster “Black Panther.” Her acting career spanned over 45 years, during which she received numerous accolades for her contributions to the arts.

She received several lifetime achievement awards, including honors at the Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards (HAPA), the 16th South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas), the Hennessy VSOP Privilège Lifetime Achievement Award from the GQ Men of the Year awards, and the Royalty Soapie Awards.

News of her passing has prompted a wide array of tributes from colleagues in the acting industry, fans of her work, and supporters.
