DURBAN – The preparations for King Misuzulu’s coronation are under way after the royal household and the KwaZulu-Natal government set up committees.
According to a statement issued by the provincial cabinet after its meeting on Wednesday, the government coronation team would be led by Premier Sihle Zikalala, Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC Peggy Nkonyeni, Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Sipho Hlomuka, and Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation MEC Hlengiwe Mavimbela.
The team will lead all consultations on the coronation with the Zulu royal family.
The premier also announced that since the national government had gazetted the king, the provincial government was ready to provide him with all the necessary support as he embarked on his task of leading his nation.
Zulu royal family spokesperson Prince Africa Zulu confirmed that the royal family had also set up its coronation committee but that no details would be announced yet.
The king’s coronation ceremony is expected to take place peacefully as the opposing side did not appeal against the Pietermaritzburg High Court ruling which declared the king as the rightful heir to succeed his late father, King Goodwill Zwelithini. The 14-day appeal period lapsed last week and this prompted the presidency to formally recognise the king.
The Daily News has been informed that the royal committee held its first meeting last week in the old legislature building in Ulundi.
