BLUES lovers can look forward to some smoking hot winter gigs. Pebbleman, headed up by dextrous guitarist Richard Pryor, lands at Berties Mooring on July 24. This rocking ensemble will deliver a full 90-minute set of high-octane blues rock. The sonic ear candy starts just after 9pm.
On July 31 a Blues-Meets-Rock event will offer something of a rock tsunami just after 8pm at The Durbanville Golf Club. A double bill of Pebbleman and The Jonathan Peyper Band promises “high Richter scale readings of fretboard shredding, Godlike vocal melodies and hard driving 1970's inspired originals that are bound to get the blood pumping”. All courtesy of a powerful rig pumping out 10 000 watts.
The Jonathan Peyper Band will feature with the engine room of Black Cat Bones who will come down from Johannesburg. Peyper’s album will also be on sale for the first time in Cape Town. He is considered by some to be one of the great up-and-coming guitarists in the rock community. Other performers on the night include Nhoza Sitsholwana, Doc John and Chris Thundervolt.
Vocalist Jesse Jordan will steer Pebbleman’s classic boogie material. Expect some original material, a couple of evergreens and plenty of instrumental exploration. There’ll also be lucky draws, Paul Bothner vouchers and a killer Fender guitar up for grabs.
Another blues event to diarise is at Café Roux on September 19. Here Boulevard Blues will appear with special guest Nhoza Sitsholwana providing a night of the blues at the Noordhoek venue.
