THE High School Jam competition will again be held at GrandWest’s Grand Arena. The semi-finals are on August 23 between 9.30am and 8pm, and the finals are on August 24 between 2pm and 6pm.
The competition is open to high schools throughout the Western Cape.
The idea is to provide an interactive learning experience in the fields of music and dance, thereby enabling students to gain exposure in the entertainment industry.
Eleven high schools have been chosen to compete in 2014. Three will be chosen to take part in the finals and the winning school stands a chance of winning R30 000. The two runners-up each win R10 000. Individual prizes will also be awarded to solo and group performers across all the schools.
Last year the event attracted 1 200 students who performed to a sold-out audience of 10 000. Last year’s winner was Milnerton High School. – Arts writer
